Overview
Spin by SouthWest (SpinXSW) is an interactive installation that we presented at South By Southwest 2014, in Austin, TX. The system combined mobile phone control, kinetic game-mechanics, and real-time lighting display on a three-dimensional sculpture. Multiple players collaborated and competed in real-time to become the ultimate dance champion.
The Concept
SpinXSW fuses elements of gaming, dance, electronics, light, and sound. Part lighting installation, and part HTML5 mobile web application, SpinXSW leverages the power of smartphones as an input medium to allow multiple participants to simultaneously control lights and sounds through the motion of their own bodies. This unique "multi-player dance" concept fuses the natural joy of motion with the wide-eyed wonder of lights and sound, to create an installation experience that quickens the pulse while helping people connect with each other and get their game on!
