Sundowner

Overview

This project, by our founder Dave Loomis, was an entry in a comptetition to re-envision 'The Sundowner,' an old Route 66 sign as a large, light sculpture, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The design is an extension of the Wallships concept (described here), to a large scale installation, with animated light emanating from behind stacked planar elements on each of the sign's faces. It also featured an element that tracks the phase of the moon, reminding the viewer of the natural world around them. The 'Smart' lighting engine envisioned for the system is under active development at Lumieria, and will be described in more detail at a later date. The competition entry was submitted in November 2013. Although it was not picked as the winning entry, we're proud of our design entry.
